Adjectives (Beginning with “A”)
Today’s words are all adjectives. An adjective is a word such as ‘big’, ‘dead’, or ‘financial’ that describes a person or thing, or gives extra information about them. Adjectives usually come before nouns or after link verbs.
able [ ey-buhl ] （因具有品质或技能）能做到…的
If you are able to to something, you have the skills or qualities which make it possible for you to do it.
The young boy is able to cook eggs.
adorable [ uh–dawr-buh l, uh–dohr– ] 可爱的
If you someone or something is adorable, you are saying that they are very attractive and you feel great affection for them.
That kitten is adorable.
adventurous [ ad-ven-cher-uhs ] 勇于冒险的；敢于创新的;爱冒险的
Someone who is adventurous is willing to take risks and to try new methods, or is someone who is eager to visit new places and have new experiences.
The sign said, “Danger” but Billy has always been an adventurous kind of boy.
acidic [ uh–sid-ik ] （味道）酸的
If something tastes acidic it is sharp and sour tasting.
Some coffees taste very acidic.
active [ ak-tiv ] 忙碌的；活跃的
Someone who is active moves around a lot or does a lot of things.
Staying active can help you have a long and healthy life.
